Memorial Fingerprint Jewellery: A lasting tribute

Capture your loved one’s fingerprint and create a timeless keepsake to hold them close, always.

Sterling silver fingerprint impression ring band

Losing a loved one is never easy, but a fingerprint keepsake offers a deeply personal way to keep them close. Whether planning ahead or facing an unexpected loss, we can help preserve their unique touch in solid sterling silver or 9ct gold.

We are happy to work with funeral homes, palliative care providers, and other services to assist in capturing an impression. If time is limited, alternative methods can be used to capture a fingerprint without our wax kit. Please see below for more information, or contact us, and we’ll be happy to assist.

How it works

Step-by-step

Choose your piece

First, order your piece of impression print jewellery. Not sure what piece to choose? You can order a wax kit on its own and choose your finished piece later.

Once your order is placed, we’ll send you a wax kit with everything you need to capture your impression.

Shaping & casting

We will prepare your wax impressions for casting, shaping your piece and preparing ring bands or jump rings as required.

Then your wax piece is cast into your chosen precious metal using the lost wax technique. This involves creating a mould around your wax impression, then the wax is melted away and replaced with molten silver or gold - capturing every tiny detail.

Polishing

After casting, your piece will have a raw, unfinished look. We then carefully refine, shape, and polish it by hand, ensuring every detail is just right.

Any requested customisations, such as engraving or gemstones, are added during this stage, bringing your piece to life before it’s prepared for shipping.

Finished Piece

Your finished piece is carefully packaged in a beautiful gift box. Ready to be worn and treasured, it becomes a lasting keepsake that carries your unique story wherever you go.

If you've chosen to create a permanent mould, you have the option to create future pieces, just get in contact when you're ready.

No time to receive a wax kit?

If you don’t have time to receive one of our wax kits, you can use the following alternatives:

1. Silicone Moulding Putty (Best Option)

  • Can be purchased on Amazon.
  • Use a two-part moulding putty such as Pebeo Gedeo Siligum or Pinkysil.
  • Mix, press the fingertip into the putty, and let it set before sending it to us.

2. Polymer Clay (Good Alternative)

  • Can be purchased in most craft stores such as Spotlight or Eckersley's.
  • Captures fine details but requires baking.
  • Use soft polymer clay (e.g., Sculpey or Fimo).
  • Press the fingertip into the clay, bake per instructions, and send it to us.

3. Air-Dry Clay (Last Resort Option)

  • Can be purchased in most craft stores such as Spotlight or Eckersley's.
  • Less reliable and fragile but can work in urgent cases.
  • Press the fingertip into moist clay and let it dry completely before sending.

If you need urgent assistance, please email us at support@merakistudio.com.au with 'Memorial Impression' in the subject line, and we will get back to you as a priority.

Permanent Moulds for future keepsakes

If you'd like to create multiple pieces from one wax print or have the option for future keepsakes, a permanent mould can be made from your loved one’s fingerprint or pet’s impression. This mould is securely stored, allowing more pieces to be crafted without needing to retake the print.

FAQs

How long will it take to receive my finished jewellery after I return my wax impressions?

Once I receive your wax impressions, it typically takes 2–3 weeks for your finished piece to be ready to ship. You’ll receive an email with tracking details when your order is dispatched.

What happens if the prints I send back aren’t good enough?

While I can refine small imperfections, the final result depends on the quality of the impression you provide. If I believe the prints may not turn out well, I’ll contact you. If they are unsuitable, you will need to purchase a new Wax Impression Kit to retake the impressions.

How are my wax impressions turned into jewellery?

Your wax impression is cast in your chosen metal using the traditional lost wax casting technique, which produces the most beautifully authentic impression. Each piece is then finished and polished by hand, making it completely unique.

Do I need to return all the pieces of wax provided?

Yes! Please leave impressions on all the wax pieces provided and return them all to me. This allows me to select the best print for casting.

Can I include an initial or custom engraving on my piece?

For single-sided prints, I offer a hand-stamped initialon the back. If you're ordering multiple pendants, I highly recommend this to help differentiate them. Please note, this is astampedinitial, not laser engraving, so it has an organic, handcrafted look. I don’t offer engraving at this stage, but you’re welcome to take your finished piece to your local jeweller for engraving.
